Revolver - Sirens of Light

When asked to describe the inspiration for doing a cover of the song “Revolver“ Andy J Davies of the London based Goth Rock band Sirens of Light had this to say

“When a piece of art is put into the public domain, the original meaning of it becomes almost  irrelevant…..what becomes of more importance is how the art resonates with the individual experiencing the piece. Clearly, any piece of work is, therefore, contextual to the time it is experienced. For me, the original song was always a great song regardless of its era, but, in the current climate, after the global pandemic and living in a world where social media and reality TV shows are king, I would expect most people to be able to relate to the idea of reaching for their revolver in one way or another. I always felt the song was emotionally way more angry than the original sounded and in this cover we’ve focused on that.”

The Sirens of Light’s rendition of “Revolver,“ a song originally by Boston based Post Punk band Mission Of Burma, called “That’s When I Reach For My Revolver “is a chilling ambient take on the song. The original version had a little controversy as the title was taken from a Henry Miller essay which unbeknownst to the band was a misquote from a German playwright and nazi sympathizer.

The Sirens of Light version, “Revolver“ creates a more threatening and menacing soundscape accompanied by haunting vocals that are perfectly congruent with the desperate and doom filled lyrics.  This version is a wonderful synthesis of the disillusioned  and foreboding message in the song.
